This project has awesome contributors all over the world working on it (artists, musicians, etc.). The code is covered under the GPL and the media is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0. I am the founder and the guy who wrote the game engine (in C language, using the Allegro game development library).
Open Surge runs on Windows and Linux, and it's optimized for both slow and fast hardware. It features a level editor, a scripting system and a flexible engine: you can create your own games based on it without programming knowledge! Check out some MODs made by our users:
